According to Frank Seravalli, Ilya Samsonov is very close to signing a contract extension with the Leafs, after playing on a one-year deal at $1.8 million AAV. Speaking on the DFO Rundown podcast on Monday, Seravalli says Samsonov and the Leafs are headed toward re-upping long-term.
Though it was unclear at the start of last year who would claim the #1 spot in net for the Leafs between him and Matt Murray, Samsonov has seized his opportunity, posting a 2.33 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage and 27 wins in his debut season in Toronto.
