Brad Marchand Calls on Gary Bettman to Make a Major Rule Change

NHL veteran Brad Marchand is known for sharing his views on various issues within the league. Recently, he weighed in on a hotly debated topic – the NHL playoff format.

Marchand wants the league to make a major change

Marchand expressed his opinion on Thursday, stating that he believes the league should return to the old Conference-style seeding, also known as the 1v8 format. He argues that the current playoff structure often puts the top teams in a single division against each other in the early rounds, leading to missed opportunities for teams that should be advancing further:

"You have the top-3 teams in one division. You have three teams that should be going deep, [two] are playing against each other in the first round. ... So I think we should go back to the one versus eight."

Marchand is not alone in this belief, as other players, including Sidney Crosby, have also voiced their support for reverting to the old format.

The previous playoff format was in place for 20 years, from 1993 until 2013, when it was changed to the current format.
