It is no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs have been disappointing this year. Now head coach Sheldon Keefe is calling out his players for their inconsistent effort.

Keefe Calls Out Toronto Maple Leafs Players For Lack Of Effort

The veteran head coach called out his players following another loss to the New York Islanders on Monday. He stated that he feels as though the team only gives their best effort in half of their games.
Sheldon Keefe believes the Leafs have played to their potential in «about 50 percent» of the games this season.
This comment comes after the team lost to the very mediocre New York Islanders 3-2 on Monday. Following the game though, just four points separate the Leafs and Islanders despite the fact that Toronto clearly has a much more talented lineup. The Leafs do have two games in hand on the Islanders, but that does not make up the difference in where the Leafs should be.

Keefe: 'This Is The National Hockey League, That Was PeeWee Stuff'

The head coach did not stop there when criticizing his team. One of the goals the Islanders scored on Monday came as Kyle MacLean scored his first career NHL goal on a breakaway he got coming out of the penalty box. Keefe was especially upset with this play, calling it 'PeeWee' hockey.
"This is the National Hockey League. That's Peewee stuff."

Sheldon Keefe was not impressed with the Leafs allowing the Islanders to bury on a breakaway straight out of the box.
Considering the Roster that the Leafs have, they should not be worried about earning a top-three spot in the Atlantic division. Following the loss to the Islanders though, the team sits 4th in the division, one point back of the Lightning with two games in hand on them. Meanwhile, the Lightning are 8-2 over their last ten games while the Leafs are just 4-5-1. With the teams trending in opposite directions, the Leafs could be in serious danger of falling into a wild-card spot.
