With lots of questions looming inside and out of the Toronto Maple Leafs locker room after their round two loss, one major piece of debate is the pending status of Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas.
On Saturday night's Sportsnet broadcast, insider Elliotte Friedman revealed Dubas is the starting piece of the puzzle to figuring out the team's future.
New Development About Kyle Dubas' Future in Toronto
Following a disappointing five-game loss to the Florida Panthers, big changes are expected across the entire Maple Leafs organization. Amidst the cloud of uncertainty hanging over Dubas, Friedman offered his personal insights and an update on the likelihood of Dubas's future in Toronto.
"I think the first thing they have to figure out is the future of general manager Kyle Dubas. I will stress that this is my opinion and my opinion alone, but I would be surprised if there were not discussion already about bringing him back.
You have to recognize that you have to get there and you have to get there with terms that everyone is happy with... but my personal belief is that they have had discussions about bringing him back."
Big decisions are coming in the organization: free agency deadlines, player contract extensions, and potential roster revamps. It's premordial they sort out Dubas's situation promptly.
"They have to get this done quickly because they have a lot of decisions to make up and down the roster and around the team," said Friedman.
If they don't act quickly, Dubas might just find himself another job in the NHL.
