From the moment he stepped on the ice for the first time in the NHL back in 2016, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews has been a superstar, and now that appears to be transcending NHL die hards.
A major honour
Despite being just 25-years old, Matthews has arguably become the face of the league with his style, play on the ice and likeable personality in a big market, resulting in him being the cover athlete of the NHL video game series not once, but twice.
Now, when asked about who should cover NHL 24, Matthews has unsurprisingly volunteered to make it a third, despite being just one game in between the last time he graced the cover.

An unlikely chance
Despite this, it's very, very unlikely the NHL decides to go with Matthews again, and after Trevor Zegras a year ago, they could be looking at the future with the likes of Connor Bedard, Cale Makar and the star duo in Edmonton all possibilities.
As indicated at the end of the video, it appears we will find out tomorrow just who the NHL 24 cover athlete will be, but one thing is for sure, don't expect we've seen the last of Auston Matthews on the cover.
