Tom Wilson Gives his Honest Opinion of Rival Sidney Crosby

When it comes to NHL rivalries, it doesn't really get any better than the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins. It began with the drafting of Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, two of the greatest players of their generation, in back-to-back drafts.The rivalry between Ovi and Crosby has been the subject of countless debates among fans and analysts. Both players have carved out remarkable careers, distinguishing themselves as some of the most talented athletes in the league.
Tom Wilson, who's been with the Caps since 2012, talked about the rivalry with Crosby and shared his honest opinion on the Pens' captain.
Wilson Weighs In
Recently, Wilson was asked to weigh in on the Ovi-Crosby rivalry. Having a unique perspective as Ovechkin's teammate and having faced off against Crosby for over a decade, Wilson shared his thoughts on TSN 1050:
"I'd say they are quite different," Wilson admitted on TSN 1050. "You never know what Ovi is going to come up with. Sid is relatively quiet out there for the most part. He gets fired up every once in a while, but he sticks to his game and isn't very vocal."
When asked to address Crosby's reputation as a "dirty" player, Wilson defended him.
"I think every hockey player has a trick or two up their sleeve, whether it's to defend themselves or to play with some sandpaper – it's just how we are. He's had a big target on his back for a long time, so I'm sure he has to do some things to create space," said Wilson.
Wilson was also quick to praise Crosby.
"He's an all-time great player in the game, and despite how many times we've played against each other and gone back and forth in that rivalry, we haven't had many run-ins. He's always been quite classy and a respected player, at least from my perspective."
It's great to see rivals respecting each other like that. It doesn't come around often, so let's make the most of it!
