The Chicago Blackhawks have revealed that Corey Perry's absence was a "team decision", and continue to remain silent on what caused the fallout.

Blackhawks Behind Perry Being Away From Team

Blackhawks General Kyle Davidson told reporters today that it was a decision of the team to have Forward Corey Perry away from the team, but would not divulge details into the matter of his absence.

Perry, 38 is in his first season with the Blackhawks, having signed him to a one-year, $4M contract in the off-season. Perry was also named one of 4 Assistant Captains for Chicago for the 2023-24 season, without an official Captain. Perry missed the Blackhawks game against the Toronto Maple Leafs as a healthy scratch.

The reason for his current departure is unknown, and members of the Blackhawks organization have yet to provide any reason for his departure.

2023 1st Overall Pick Connor Bedard said the team had "little information" on why Perry was away. Fellow Assistant Captain Nick Foligno affirmed the roster doesn't have many details.

Perry, a Stanley Cup Champion in 2007 and 2011 Hart Trophy Winner with the Anaheim Ducks, as well as a 2x Olympic Gold Medalist with Team Canada, has 4 Goals and 9 Points in 16 Games for Chicago this season. As of right now, there has been no confirmation if, or when, Perry might return to the team.
