Matthews Joins Keller for Offseason Training

Toronto Maple Leafs' superstar Auston Matthews has been spotted training with the Arizona Coyotes' top player, Clayton Keller. Matthews, a native of Arizona, often returns home during the NHL offseason to spend time with family and friends. This year, he's keeping up his shape by training at the Coyotes' facilities, where he's been seen practicing alongside fellow forward Clayton Keller.





Both Matthews and Keller have a lot in common. They played together on the US National Team Development Program and were drafted in 2016, with Matthews being the first overall pick and Keller the seventh. In terms of skill, they're two of the most talented players out there.

Could the Leafs Make a Move for Keller?

There's been growing speculation that the Maple Leafs might be interested in acquiring Keller, especially since Matthews and Keller share a strong bond.

Keller, who just wrapped up a season with 37 goals and 86 points, was the standout player on the Coyotes' roster. His offensive prowess would be a welcome addition to the Leafs' lineup.

Additionally, Keller is on a team-friendly contract for the next five years, making him an attractive option for the Leafs. But securing Keller would come at a steep price.

There's been talk that William Nylander might be on the trading block due to uncertainties surrounding his contract situation. As a player who's shown his worth, Nylander could be an enticing piece for the Coyotes, who would have the financial flexibility to offer him a competitive contract.

The Coyotes could also benefit from strengthening their defense, which has been underwhelming in recent seasons. Timothy Liljegren of the Leafs, a young defenseman with untapped potential, could be part of the trade package. A change of scenery might be just what Liljegren needs to reach his full potential, much like Rasmus Sandin did with the Washington Capitals.

Adding Keller to the Leafs would undoubtedly bolster their offense, but it would come with a hefty price tag and depend on several external factors. Whether or not the Leafs pursue Keller remains to be seen, but fans can't help but dream of what could be.
