NHL Insider Confirms the Future of the Coyotes in Arizona
The Arizona Coyotes have been struggling for a long time now and it looks like the residents of Tempe had enough, when they voted against the new arena project. With this gone, so are the Coyotes.
Friedman Reveals Arizona's Future
Elliotte Friedman confirmed in a recent report that the NHL doesn't want to abandon the Arizona market completely. Even if the Coyotes leave, the NHL plans to bring another team to Arizona in the future.
"They are going to expand at some point and I believe too if they leave Arizona eventually they will go back there, they will not leave that market open" - Elliotte Friedman

This is good news for hockey fans in Arizona.
Friedman also discussed the NHL's increasing chances of expanding in the next few years. With the recent sale of the Senators for nearly $1 billion, an expansion franchise could be very profitable for the NHL.
There has been more talk about Atlanta as a potential market for expansion. The NHL has already tried twice in Atlanta before. While there is debate about whether the NHL should expand or relocate a team to Atlanta, it seems that the league is genuinely interested in the city.
"There's a lot of people out there who really believe the Atlanta thing, especially with TNT being a rights holder, they're based in Atlanta, that's a very real thing." - Elliotte Friedman
