Former NHLer and TNT analyst, Paul Bissonnotte commented on the Toronto Maple Leafs firing Sheldon Keefe today.

Just woke up on my flight to Atlanta to the news. Thought Keefe did a solid job as Leafs head coach. He'll land on his feet somewhere. With the #RumourBoys reporting the Devils will land Berube, not sure where that leaves Toronto for a head coach? Should know pretty soon.

Biz thinks the Leafs will go after 2019 Stanley Cup Champion Craig Berube.

Keefe's tenure with the Leafs was historic in the regular season.
.665 points percentage during the regular seasons He was top among all NHL head coaches with at least 300 games under their belt. He helped set a franchise-record 115 points in 2021-22 and 111 points in 2022-23.

Yet when it came to the playoffs, it just didn't click the same way. Despite all those regular-season wins, the Leafs only managed to clinch one playoff series.

Toronto decided it was time for a new voice to lead the team, even though they just extended Keefe's contract for two more years. He will still be getting paid while out of work.

Brad Treliving, the Leafs' GM, had some kind words for Keefe though, acknowledging his hard work and dedication over the nine years he spent with the organization, including winning a Calder Cup with the AHL affiliate, Toronto Marlies.

Today's decision was difficult. Sheldon is an excellent coach and a great man; however, we determined a new voice is needed to help the team push through to reach our ultimate goal,» Treliving said. «We thank Sheldon for his hard work and dedication to the organization over the last nine years, and wish him and his family all the very best.

It's always bittersweet saying goodbye to someone who's been such a big part of the team. But hockey is a business.
