Today the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they had fired Sheldon Keefe from his position as head coach. Just hours after the announcement, Sheldon Keefe released a video about the move and his time with the Maple Leafs.
It was widely speculated that the Toronto Maple Leafs would part ways with Sheldon Keefe this week. Today the move was officially announced by the team on X.
Sheldon Keefe has been relieved of his role as head coach. The organization will immediately begin the search for a new head coach.
Just moments ago Sheldon Keefe also took to X and made a statement of his own. He spoke about what it was like coaching the team and the honor he felt it was as a boy from nearby Brampton. He thanks Kyle Dubas and several other staff members for the opportunity. He also talked about the passion of the Maple Leafs fans and how the city deserves a Stanley Cup. Finally, he thanked his players for their efforts despite the outcome.
Leafs nation. Time has come to say goodbye. Writing down a note and sending it out didn't seem like enough. And I do plan on taking a little break from media. So here I am. Um. I'm forever grateful for the opportunity to coach the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's a dream come true for a boy from Brampton.

Now the search for the next head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs will begin. As Sheldon Keefe's era ends it did not end on the best of terms. Regardless the Toronto Maple Leafs fans should appreciate the passion and drive that Sheldon Keefe brought to his job every single day even if the results fell short.
