Maple Leafs defenceman Simon Benoit has stated his interest in remaining with the Toronto Maple Leafs. A so called diamond in the rough for the Leafs, as the 25 year old was left to dry by the Anaheim Ducks after not giving him a qualifiying offer during last summer making him a pending UFA. The Leafs went on to sign him at a 775k cap hit for 1 year on August 28th, 2023.

When Maple Leaf reporter Luke Fox asked Benoit if he wants to remain with the Leafs, he answered the following.
"I would love to re-sign. But I don't like to think about it. I just think about my game tonight." - Simon Benoit

Benoit has 2 points this season in over 30 games, but his defensive play has been crucial to the Maple Leafs success, and has made himself a fan favorite in Toronto. It's always a good feeling when a player wants to stay in a huge hockey market like the Six.
Feel good story for the former Ducks player!
