TSN's Darren Dreger shared a pivotal update on the ongoing Mitch Marner situations with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.

Dreger mentioned that while it's possible Leafs GM Brad Treliving might approach Marner's camp with a trade offer this offseason, the preference seems to be signing the 27-year-old forward to a contract extension.
From the conversations I've had, Marner wants to play out his contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He's got one year left. That doesn't mean he's going to leave after next season. Of course, there's a risk since he'd become a free agent, but Marner negotiated his deal, including the no-move clause, in good faith.

And are we sure Toronto doesn't want to extend Mitch? I think Treliving would rather extend than trade, but those discussions haven't started yet. It's still early days.

@DarrenDreger joined us this morning on #FirstUp and dropped a bombshell on the future of Mitch Marner! 👀

Marner had another standout regular season with the Leafs, scoring 26 goals and racking up 85 points in 69 games. However, he managed just one goal and three points in seven games during Toronto's Round 1 playoff loss to the Boston Bruins, leading to speculation about a potential trade.
Elliotte Friedman says Sheldon Keefe was extremely careful about how he treated Marner because of how sensitive Marner is.

If that's the case, I don't know how Marner thinks he will put up with the pressure of another season in Toronto.

I'm so sick of this situation.
Marner's contract has a cap hit of $10.903 million, about 12.4% of next season's $88 million salary cap. He also has a full no-movement clause, giving him control over any potential trade.
The Leafs picked Marner fourth overall in the 2015 NHL Draft. In his 576 career NHL games with the Leafs, Marner has scored 194 goals and collected 639 points. He's added 11 goals and 50 points in 57 playoff games.
