Maple Leafs Captain gave his thought on the Controversial Firing of ex-General Manger Kyle Dubas
The Captain Speaks
John Tavares and Kyle Dubas were known to have a close relationship, as it was Dubas who lured Tavares away from the only NHL team he'd ever known on Long Island.
But after yet another playoff failure Dubas was fired, and he left for Pittsburgh, taking Jason Spezza with him.
Tavares finally spoke on the firing:
You guys know the impact Kyle has made on me & the role he played when I was a free agent & convincing me why this opportunity was the right one ... we understand that's the business of the game and things happen,"
Brad Treliving, the former GM of the Calgary Flames, was hired to replace Dubas shortly after the former was let go.
Huge Season Coming Up
This is an incredibly important season coming up in Toronto, with some already claiming that their Cup window is shrinking.
Superstars Auston Matthews and William Nylander's contracts expire after next year, and little progress has been made.
Nylander's situation is especially dire as he has already submitted his 10-team no trade list.
Tavares plays an important role next year too, as rumors are flying that his declining speed will force a move to left wing.
HIs onerous $11 million dollar cap hit appears to be depreciating five years into his Leafs tenure, with two head coaches, two GM, and only one playoff series win to show for it.
