Insider Reveals The Leafs Reached Out To Trevor Zegras

The situation in Anaheim regarding Trevor Zegras and his extension is going downhill, fast. It was recently reported that the Ducks are only offering him $3-4 million per year, and Zegras hasn't been participating in their training camp. Now, it appears the situation is getting worse.

Leafs Among Teams to Seek a Trade for Zegras

It was recently revealed that three teams have reached out to inquire about Trevor Zegras and the Ducks' willingness to trade the young star. Reportedly, the Leafs are among those teams.



In this situation, the Leafs would be sending Nylander to Anaheim for Zegras, a move that would free up cap space for the Leafs this year.

Zegras for Nylander a Good Deal for Toronto?

The question becomes if this trade were to occur, would it benefit Toronto? The Leafs are definitely strapped for cash, but they aren't in a position where they have to sign Nylander this year.

Nylander scored 40 goals and 47 assists last year for the Leafs for 87 points total. Zegras, on the other hand, had just 23 goals and 42 assists for 65 points last year. It's clear that Nylander is a much better overall goal scorer.

Now, there is a possibility that Zegras would do better in Toronto with all the skill and talent on the Leafs' roster. However, if the Leafs make this trade just to free up cap space, they may be disappointed in the future.
