Insider Reveals The Leafs' Potential Ask for William Nylander
William Nylander is question number 1 for the Leafs roster, and what Treliving's plan for the forward is. An NHL insider just revealed what the Leafs could be looking for in return for a potential Nylander trade.
Mark Masters recently said on a podcast that the Leafs could be looking at getting a similar return for Nylander that Eichel got last year, being several assets instead of just a blockbuster one-for-one deal. Treliving could be using this season to locate a similar style deal and to keep his options open while evaluating the Team and Nylander's play.

Nylander's Current Contract
As for the current situation, Masters notes that Nylander's contract is one of, if not the best contracts the Leafs have, and they shouldn't be quick to get rid of it.
"At least for this coming season, Nylander is the best contract they got." He adds, «He's under $7 million and 40 goals."
"The belief with the Shana-Plan and this Leafs philosophy has been, if you have those four guys, then you're going to have a chance every season and you're in the playoffs, which they don't want to take for granted."
While many might believe that getting Nylander figured out before the season is crucial, Treliving might actually have the upper hand here. He can evaluate Nylander throughout the season, and if the Leafs aren't performing, he can trade him to a potential contender for a huge return.
If the Leafs are doing well and poised for a big run, he gets Nylander's production at under 7 million and can deal with the repercussions later on after his first season as GM.
