Norris Winner Finally on the Move?

The Erik Karlsson trade rumours may finally be put to rest this weekend, ones which would see him finally be traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

While being interviewed on the NHL Network, insider Elliotte Friedman claims that once the Penguins' second buyout window opens, sources tell him the team will try to finally land Karlsson during that time.

Though new GM Kyle Dubas isn't a huge fan of buyouts, Friedman is nonetheless «very curious» to see if the Karlsson situation is settled by the time that buyout window closes (jump to 2:47 in the clip below). Buying out a player on the current Penguins roster would certainly help facilitate a deal.

An Interesting Next 48 Hours

Friedman claims a couple of sources have told him to «keep an eye» on the situation, in case a trade goes down. Should Pittsburgh acquire Karlsson — who captured his third Norris trophy and a career-high 101 points last season for San Jose — over the weekend, this would help position the Penguins as a Stanley Cup contender as the careers of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin go down the home stretch.
