Tonight an NHL insider has suggested that the NHL should adopt a new playoff format of another sport to help with exposure of the game. Montreal Canadiens writer Arpon Basu wants to see a play-in tournament implemented.

The play-in tournament is a concept that began in the NBA during the COVID season. It was used to help determine the final two seeds in each conference. The teams and players enjoyed it so much it was kept permanently.
Tonight the NHL has several games that will determine the NHL playoff picture. However, NHL insider Arpon Basu believes that a play in tournament could be the best form of deciding the final playoff teams.
The last two nights have demonstrated how great a play-in tourney would be. Just saying.
Sports fans generally agree that the Stanley Cup playoffs are the best of any sport. Adding in games that precede the playoffs that have that Stanley Cup playoff vibe would add to that electricity. It would also allow for the best teams to truly make the playoffs.
With things locked in for this season it would be great if Gary Bettman and the NHL looked into this possibility for future seasons.
