Scout linked to Jeff Marek's departure from Sportsnet reveals truth
We now know why Jeff Marek was ousted at Sportsnet.
The 13 year veteran broadcaster allegedly passed some 2024 NHL draft pick info to Mark Seidel, who's the Barrie Colts' director of scouting and player personnel. Seidel then posted this info on social media before it was released before the formal announcement at the Vegas Sphere, angering the NHL.
Insiders usually know draft picks, but they keep things secretive to allow the process and spectacle of the centralized draft to play itself out. Seidel, wasn't doing anything wrong, but he was sharing these picks from the betting capital of the world, where strict rules were in place, and the league didn't want to take any chances.
Once the connection between Marek and Seidel came alive, the fan-favorites departure from Sportsnet followed.

Seidel, who was just fired by Barrie today is still an NHL media member and previously worked in the Minnesota Wild organization.
However, his stint there was cut short after his colleagues complained about him not working hard enough. He underperformed and was cut loose, before rebounding with his own scouting system.
I didn't perform to my expectations. The Wild had their concerns, too, but they were extremely gracious in my time there.
It's left fans with an incomplete puzzle, and some lingering questions about the fairness of the moves. These reporters were giving the information they were told and still got shown the door despite years of hard work preceding their minor mistake.
