Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews skate together in offseason workout
After a summer that saw McDavid tie the knot and Matthews take on the Leafs captaincy, the first-overall picks from 2015 and 2016 united in Germany.
The duo recently hit the ice in Munich, skating with the local Red Bull DEL team. They posed for a photo with goalie Christopher Kolarz and his kids in the SAP Garden's locker room. Despite their on-ice rivalry, McDavid and Matthews seem to be great friends. Matthews is seen setting up Connor McDavid, who takes a shot on goal. It's exciting to see these two superstars in action together during the offseason.

Whether this meetup was a coincidence or part of the NHL's European media tour remains unclear, but it's clear they enjoyed their time together.
Matthews, the reigning Rocket Richard winner with 69 goals, is starting the first year of his massive four-year, $53 million contract, which has the highest annual average value in NHL history at $13.25 million. Mcdavid is the reigning Conn Smyth winner but his Oilers have some unfinished business to take care of after falling in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers.
For fans, this is a sign that the 2024-25 NHL season is just around the corner and full of exciting moments coming to rinks and TV screens near you very soon.
