Chaos Ensues After Long Time Defenseman Targets Connor Bedard With a Massive Hit
The Chicago Blackhawks lost their most important player tonight after New jersey Devils defenseman Brendan Smith struck rookie sensation Connor Bedard with a high hit.
Bedard Leaves Blackhawks Bench After Taking High Hit From Brendan Smith
The play came just over 10 minutes into the game with the Blackhawks on the powerplay. Smith stood up Bedard who was trying to move past him in open ice. The contact looked as though Bedard ran into a tree as he tumbled to the ice with Smith hardly budging at all.

By the time the 1st period ended, Bedard had not returned to the bench.
Great period by the #Blackhawks, who are up 1-0 (courtesy of Dickinson) after the 1st period.
But Connor Bedard did not return to the ice after a bit hit (he was holding his face). Let's hope we see him back on the bench for the 2nd.
Foligno Responds After Questionable Hit On Bedard
Blackhawks veteran
Nick Foligno immediately responded to the play by throwing his own weight around. While he did not grab a dance partner to drop the gloves, it was pretty obvious that he was not a fan of the play and was not afraid to assert himself to protect his young star.
Bedard is by far the Blackhawks most important player both now and in the future. He currently leads the team in goals and points despite this being just his first year in the NHL as an 18-year-old. The team will sorely miss his presence if he were to miss any length of time with an injury. Stay tuned for updates on his status.
