Marchand Makes A Controversial Statement About Crosby
Brad Marchand was recently interviewed for a story centered around Sidney Crosby. During the interview Marchand had high praise for Crosby. He even controversially claimed that Sidney Crosby remains the best player in the NHL even today.
"I think he's still obviously one of the best in the world, but he's not really getting the credit he deserves right now,» Marchand said. «A lot of the attention is on the younger guys, but if you look at the details of the game, and full 200 feet, he's by far the best player in the League"

Marchand continued on and said the thing the separates Crosby from a lot of the younger superstars is his commitment to improving.
«It's all in the way that he prepares and the way he has for years,» the 35-year-old said. «I think what a lot of players don't understand, especially young players, is that the work that you put in when you're younger and early in your career and even throughout your career, it doesn't benefit you for the next season, it's a continuation of building it for down the road.
After praising Crosby, Marchand decided to talk about one younger superstar in particular that he thinks is getting too much attention and praise compared to veterans like Crosby.
Marchand Calls Out Rookie Superstar For The Attention He Gets
In talking about how underrated Sidney Crosby has become Brad Marchand used
Connor Bedard as an example. Bedard has seen himself get a ton of media coverage this season due to the immense hype around his rookie season. This hype has not sat well with some NHL veterans including Marchand.
The young guys are getting the attention now. There's a lot of flashy young guys coming to the League but if you look at the attention that Bedard's getting compared to Sid, they're not on the same level right now. Bedard's a [heck] of a player for his age, but Sid's one of the best to ever play the game, one of the top couple players in the League now and Bedard probably gets more attention than anybody.
Marchand then says that he believes the lack of attention being paid to Crosby will just be used as further motivation to prove people wrong for as long as possible.
«They're trying to grow the game. They use the young names to do that. That's great for the game of hockey, but you sleep on a guy like [Crosby], he uses that too. He feeds off of that. He's got that drive, he wants to prove people wrong. We've seen it.»
Brad Marchand is often talked about as a pest who gets under the skin of his opponents. This interview showed that while he can be a pest he has immense respect for the greats he plays alongside and against over the years.
