NHL Referee Faces Backlash for Mocking Sam Bennett's Controversial Hit on Matthew Knies

Thanks to Sam Bennett, one could describe last nights hockey game as more of a boxing match, with Bennett not only slamming Matthew Knies's head into the ice, but also violently cross-checking Micheal Bunting, which he was not penalized for. A referee has recently shared his input on the whole situation.

While one would expect a referee to remain neutral on such matters, Tim Peel chose a different approach.

Considering the fact that Peel has a sizeable twitter following, you'd expect him to be a little more respectful when sharing his opinions, but instead, he opted to insult The Leafs and their fanbase stating that if the jerseys were reversed, nobody would care about Bennett's play, which is completely false and quite frankly out of line. It's a ridiculous statement when you consider how brutal the hit on Knies was.

All we can do now is wait and see how the NHL Department of Player Safety will react to this situation.
