In a recent episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed a recurring question being asked by those interviewing for the GM role with Shanahan.
"Friedman on 32TP says those who have interviewed for the Leafs GM job have asked Shanahan what he honestly thinks [Auston] Matthews, [Mitch] Marner and [William] Nylander are thinking and what their next contracts could look like, they want to know what they're getting into."

Several names have been floated as possible successors to the GM role, with a clear frontrunner being Brad Treliving, formerly of the Calgary Flames.
Treliving has the experience needed to make the tough calls, let's hope he'll make the right ones if he's hired.
