Nylander has hit the ground running this season. The talented Swede scored 12 points in his first eight games, maintaining a point streak ever since game one.

According to insider Eklund, whispers about the Leafs considering trading Nylander haven't died down. His great performance, however, has inflated his market value, with teams realizing they'll need to negotiate a contract with him.
« They are definitely still looking to move him,» the source said, «however we all know he's a streaky player and we all know he wants a lot in contract, and we all know how much The Leafs needs to move him eventually. It's gonna take somebody getting desperate to add scoring when they lose a player. If Patrick Laine is out for longer than expected, then you could definitely see Columbus getting involved because they need to.»

If the Leafs are thinking about trading Nylander, they would expect a high return. Currently, with his $6.9 AAV, Nylander arguably offers the best value in the NHL. Any trade involving him would need to be particularly advantageous for the Leafs, especially considering his current form.
