According to insider Eklund, whispers about the Leafs considering trading Nylander haven't died down. His great performance, however, has inflated his market value, with teams realizing they'll need to negotiate a contract with him.
« They are definitely still looking to move him,» the source said, «however we all know he's a streaky player and we all know he wants a lot in contract, and we all know how much The Leafs needs to move him eventually. It's gonna take somebody getting desperate to add scoring when they lose a player. If the Right Offer Comes Along...
If the Leafs are thinking about trading Nylander, they would expect a high return. Currently, with his $6.9 AAV, Nylander arguably offers the best value in the NHL. Any trade involving him would need to be particularly advantageous for the Leafs, especially considering his current form.
