Today a former Maple Leafs defenseman has announced his retirement and at the same time confirmed his plans for the future.

Earlier today some big news hit the hockey world regarding the retirement of an NHL veteran.
A report from Minnesota Wild reporter Michael Russo confirmed that veteran defenseman Cody Franson has officially retired. Adding to that Russo says Franson will join the coaching ranks and be an AHL assistant coach in the Minnesota Wild organization.
Hearing the #mnwild are hiring retired longtime NHL defenseman Cody Franson to replace now Wild assistant Pat Dwyer on Brett McLean's staff in Iowa. The big D played 550 games for the Leafs, Preds, Hawks and Sabres. He worked his way up thru AHL and ended his playing career there
Since the announcement was made Cody Franson has spoken out about the jump to coaching.
Franson Comments On His Retirement And Transition Into Coaching
After the news came out regarding Franson's plans he came out and spoke himself. Franson has looked forward to coaching for a long time he says and is excited to be involved in player development.
"Coaching is something I have wanted to do for a long time and I am excited to get started. I am looking forward to contributing to player development and working with Coach [Brett McLean.]" - Franson on stepping behind the bench with the Minnesota Wild's AHL affiliate
It will be fascinating to see if Franson can use the things he learned from his NHL career to create a path for future NHLers.
