As offensive lynchpins of the Leafs, locking these two down is paramount to potential championship aspirations. The rumour mill suggests the Leafs are edging closer to seeing Matthews penning his extension before Nylander.

Contrary to widespread speculation, Treliving hasn't drastically shaken up the Leafs' core. The key playoff contributors remain largely intact. One interesting subplot to follow will be the powerplay dynamic. Morgan Rielly has been the go-to powerplay orchestrator for several seasons now, but with the powerplay-savvy Klingberg joining the mix, fans can expect to see a shift.
