Steven Stamkos Throws Lightning Management Under The Bus
Steven Stamkos is normally a fan favourite in Tampa, though his recent comments are raising eyebrows.
Stamkos Unhappy With Lack of Contract Extension
In a recent interview, Steven Stamkos was asked about how his contract negotiations are going, as his contract is set to expire after this year. In his response, he let Lightning management know where he stands.
Steven Stamkos on lack of a contract extension to this point: «To be honest I've been disappointed in the lack of talk in that regard. So it was something that I expressed at the end of last year that I wanted to get something done before training camp»

Having your franchise player be disappointed is one thing, but a lack of talking to the star forward is another. It is interesting to hear that the Lightning management has yet to make serious moves to extend their Captain. When asked whether or not he wanted to discuss contracts during the season, here is what Stamkos had to say.
«I'm ready whenever so I guess that was something that that I didn't see coming but it is what it is.»
Stamkos Wants to Stay in Tampa But It Is Out of His Hands
Stamkos went on to discuss where he might want to play in the future, and how he is hopeful that things work out in Tampa.
«Like I stated at the end of last year, too. I would love to extend and play here and finish up my career here but that's out of my hands. I can't write a contract for myself.»
Stamkos has one year left on his contract with the Club, and though he is getting near the end of his career, he still has lots of production left in the tank. Last season, Stamkos scored 34 goals and 50 assists. He will certainly become a hot commodity if he becomes available.
