Familiar Faces: Kyle Dubas Signs Another Former Leaf

Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins have signed former Leaf backup goaltender Garret Sparks.

Sparks has spent the past few seasons in the American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League after his time with Toronto.

Teammates Reuniting

Sparks joins former Leafs teammate Andreas Johnsson with the Penguins.


Johnsson recently signed with Pittsburgh on July 7th 2023. Other former Leaf player acquired by Dubas include his July 1st signing of Noel Acciari.


It's unlikely that Sparks will make any real challenge for the starting spot come training camp, with him
signing an AHL contract for the 2023-24 season.

However, the signature adds goaltending depth after inking Tristan Jarry to a 5-year contract with a $5.375 million AAV.
