A New York Islanders reporter has floated a wild trade proposal for the Isles to acquire Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs. With Marner's future up in the air, rumors of potential trades are inevitable.

There are plenty of teams that would love to snag a perennial 90+ point forward like Marner, but his no-movement clause gives him the final say. While the New York Islanders aren't typically seen as contenders in the Marner sweepstakes, Islanders reporter David Kolb believes Marner would be a perfect fit alongside Matthew Barzal.

Kolb's proposed package involves sending one of Ryan Pulock or Adam Pelech and several draft picks to the Leafs.

However, there's virtually no chance Toronto's GM Brad Treliving would trade Marner for a defenseman and some futures, unless the defenseman was Noah Dobson—and even then, it's unlikely. The Leafs are in win-now mode, and while adding Pelech or Pulock would bolster their blueline, the overall package wouldn't be enticing enough.
For a deal like this to work, it would likely need to involve a third team, with the Leafs flipping the draft picks from the Islanders for another roster player. But that scenario only complicates things further.
Kolb noted that Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello likes to make "hockey trades," but this proposal doesn't fit the bill. It would take much more to bring Marner to Long Island.
