Habs Sign Key Player To Multi-Year Deal

The Montreal Canadiens have signed G Samuel Montembault to a three-year, $9.45M extension (3.15M AAV).

Montembault, 27, is 5-3-1 with Montreal this season, with a 2.73 GAA and a .910SV%. Montembault has begun to emerge as the Canadiens long-term goalie after a year spent dueling with Jake Allen for the starting role.

Montembault has spent the past 3 seasons with Montreal, acquired off Waivers from the Florida Panthers, becoming a consistent key player for the Habs in the post-Carey Price era in net. As Montreal waits out it's deep Goaltender prospect pool, having drafted 3 Goalies this past draft, including Jacob Fowler, and Cayden Primeau starting to push for a role following a strong year last season with AHL Laval.

Montembault, drafted 77th Overall by Florida in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, has a career 113 NHL games, with a 38-48-13 record with the Panthers and Canadiens. Internationally, Montembault backed team Canada to a Gold Medal at the 2023 World Championships, with a 1.42 GAA and a .939 SV% as Canada's starter.
