Recent accusations made by an Indy Race Car driver have been levelled against a current NHL player for the Detroit Redwings.

The Incident

Former Indy Race Car Driver Zachary Claman DeMelo went to Instagram to shed light on the incident that occurred over Grand Prix weekend, where he states that Red Wings Player Daniel Sprong physically assaulted him.
During Grand Prix weekend I was assaulted at a night club by Detroit Red Wings NHL player @sprong11. He grabbed my neck and pinned me on a wall, we were separated during that scuffle. After when had believed the situation was over Daniel scame back and sucker punched me in the face while I was defenceless.. The photos in the slide before is the after math of the incident. The dental work needed was brutal and l'm still not finished. I also Sustained a concussion that I've been dealing with over the past few weeks.

l just wanted to bring attention to this situation as no one has the right to act this way especially an athlete of Daniel's
caliber. We must hold our self to the highest of standards and for him to do this is beyond disappointing. Due to legal reasons I can't say more at this time.

He also shared photos of his injuries to his neck and mouth.

Sprong's Bad Start

Sprong recently signed with Detroit this offseason and has yet to play a game for them. With this incident, he is certainly off on the wrong foot, and will likely face some sort of discipline by the league or the team.
It is safe to assume, based on DeMelo's comments, that there is a legal investigation underway.
