The topic of fighting in hockey has been a hot-button issue in recent times, and now one league has made their official ruling.
Fighting has been an integral part of hockey for quite some time, but as the sport develops, it has focused less on that side of the game and more on the offensive firepower these players display.
On Thursday however, it was officially announced that the QMJHL, a junior league in Canada has officially banned fighting, with players to receive an automatic ejection from here on out.
Given the decrease in fighting in the NHL, it was only a matter of time until the move became official in junior leagues, and after studies proving how dangerous this can be, it made sense to stop younger players fighting.
It's unlikely that this move translates to the NHL however, as physicality and protection for players is still a key part of the game, but now one has to wonder just how long it will be until it happens there too.
