Alex DeBrincat Reveals His Feelings About His Trade From Ottawa to Detroit

In a recent interview, Alex DeBrincat revealed exactly how he felt when he was traded from Ottawa to Detroit, and why it happened.

DeBrincat Never Asked For a Trade

Before DeBrincat was traded from Ottawa, a lot of rumours arose that he had asked for a trade out of the City. This fueled the speculation that DeBrincat didn't like Ottawa, but this wasn't the case. Instead, DeBrincat merely told the Senators that he wasn't going to sign long-term with the club.

"Through the trade process, a lot of things that were put out there were not necessarily what was actually going on behind closed doors."

"No, I never asked for a trade. I said I wasn't going to sign long-term. And they took that as writing on the wall."

DeBrincat clarified that he actually didn't hate the City of Ottawa, just like most NHL players who leave a City. It just wasn't the best possible place for his family.

"Hating Ottawa is not going to happen for me or most players. It's such a great city. It just ended up not being the best fit for me and my family. To get the chance to come back to Detroit was something we couldn't pass up."

DeBrincat also clarified exactly why he was so excited to get to Detroit. The Michigan native has been loving life with his family around.

"Archie is growing up with his grandparents around. That's a luxury that most NHL players don't get. I do think that's something that's overlooked. We have lives outside of hockey. It's been so good for me and my wife."

The extra family time has been translating to success on the ice, too, as DeBrincat has started the year off strong with 5 goals and 3 assists for 8 points in his first 4 games of the year.
