The Toronto Maple Leafs have been up-and-down through four games this year, with neither their offence or defence showing consistency despite flashes, and in Thursday's loss to Florida, neither showed up.
In the 3-1 loss, goaltender Ilya Samsonov allowed two goals on 23 shots, and while that's not a dreadful day, it's clear he has much higher standards for himself.
After the game, Samsonov opened up on his struggles, revealing he didn't see either of the goals he let in before offering up a potential solution to his troubles.
In three starts this season, Samsonov has struggled mightily, despite posting a 2-1-0 record as he has allowed 11 goals on 79 shots, good for just a dismal .861 save percentage, and while it's still early, these aren't promising numbers.
Ultimately, with Joseph Woll waiting in the wings, the Leafs will be hoping that one of the two will catch fire in 2023-24 and lead them to a deep playoff run, and if Samsonov's struggles continue, Woll could get the call very, very soon.
