Former HOF Leaf player to have his number retired this season
The NHL has seen many incredible players over the years, but few in this previous generation have been as consistent and beloved as veteran forward Joe Thornton.
A four team player
Over his amazing 24-year career, Thornton played with the Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers, making himself a star wherever he ended up.
Throughout that time, Thornton played in 1,714 games, tallying 430 goals and 1,539 points, with the highlight of his career being the 2005-06 Art Ross and Hart Trophy winner, as he was never able to capture the elusive Stanley Cup.
A well deserved honour
Now, it has been announced that Thornton will be having his number retired by his junior team in Sault St. Marie this season after scoring an incredible 198 points in 125 games with the Soo Greyhounds.
Before being taken No. 1 overall, Thornton tallied 122 points with 41 goals in his draft eligible season, and after an incredible NHL and OHL career, he's being honour in a much deserved way.
