Coyotes Owner Reveals Backup Plan If Arizona Plans Fail
There are no teams in the NHL whos' future is less certain than the Arizona Coyotes. Talks of the team being relocated have been circulating for years now and those discussions only become more and more prevalent as it may be the most viable solution.
Alex Meruelo Proposes Entertainment District In Reno, Nevada
ABC15 Arizona recently reported that the Coyotes owner, Alex Meruelo, has just proposed a new massive entertainment district well outside of the grand canyon state. Meruelo released a statement regarding the report:
"There is no intention to move the Coyotes to Reno at this point. Obviously, they're an NHL team. They need a much bigger venue. There are a lot of rumors about that. But at this point in time, we're not planning on hockey. But we could do preseason tournaments. We would love to have the Coyotes possibly play the Knights up here in preseason. I think there would be a huge demand for that. It would sell out in a day. But as far as having a team play here, we don't have any plans currently."

Meruelo Shuts Down Speculation Surrounding Coyotes To Reno
The new entertainment district is intended to be used by the University of Nevada and its basketball team but they could certainly add the capability to use the arena for hockey as well.
While the Coyotes insist they do not intend to leave the state of Arizona they still do not have solid plans to secure a new building and their agreement with Arizona State University will expire at the end of the 2024-25 season. This new arena in Reno could serve as another stop-gap solution if they are unable to figure it out by then.
