In recent news, an NHL insider has given some major updates to Zegras' future in Anaheim, and it is not looking good.
Strickland Reveals Major News Regarding Zegras' Future in Anaheim
On the Cam & Strick Podcast, Andy Strickland went into some details on what he thinks is the hold-up for Anaheim signing Trevor Zegras. Recent rumours have come out that detail a potential rocky relationship between Zegras and Ducks' Management.
"I said this a long time ago, He's not Pat Verbeek's type of player. I don't know if he is in their long-term plans" Strickland on Trevor Zegras
This would explain the rumours that Zegras and Management are not on the same page with regard to a contract extension. Reports have detailed that Anaheim has offered a meagre $3-4 million AAV for Zegras' next contract.
Zegras Set to Be a Free Agent After Season and Could Bring in A Lot More
Strickland believes that Zegras is worth a lot more on the free market, citing his previous two years putting up 60 points, and his stature in the NHL as a franchise player.
If I am Trevor Zegras and all of a sudden the NHL has put me on this pedestal, they invite me out to the All-Star Game, they have me participate in the skills competition, I am one of the most popular names in the league, kids all over the league are wearing my jersey everywhere, why would I settle and take less than what I think I am worth, and what other players are getting. Trade me.
We will see whether or not the Ducks can get a deal done with Zegras before he becomes a free agent. However, if it is true that Zegras isn't in the Ducks' long-term plans, we could see a blockbuster trade happen this year for the forward.
