In a surprising move during NHL free agency, Ryan O'Reilly tried to convince Nashville Predators GM Barry Trotz to trade for Mitch Marner before signing Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault.

Former Maple Leaf and current Predator Ryan O'Reilly attempted to persuade rookie General Manager Barry Trotz to acquire his former teammate, Mitchell Marner, before Nashville's notable free agent signings.
A new report has emerged revealing that Ryan O'Reilly reached out to Barry Trotz, encouraging him to trade for Mitch Marner before the free agency mayhem began. The effort highlighted O'Reilly's desire to reunite with his former teammate and bolster Nashville's roster with one of Toronto's top players.

Sports analyst Nick Kypreos shared additional insights on O'Reilly's efforts, noting:
«Prior to the Predators spending a whack of dough on free agents (Steven) Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, ex-Leaf Ryan O'Reilly did his very best to convince GM Barry Trotz to make a push and trade for Mitch Marner,» Kypreos said.
As the NHL draft has concluded, a trade involving Mitch Marner seems increasingly improbable. Marner is expected to start the season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, entering the final year of his contract. Despite O'Reilly's efforts, Marner's presence on the Leafs' roster appears secure for now.
