Bruce Boudreau weighs in on Rutger McGroarty trade with controversial take

The Jets traded their disgruntled 2022 14th overall pick, who was frustrated that the Jets wouldn't guarantee him a spot on their opening night roster. As a result, McGroarty was shipped to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for their top prospect, and last year's 14th overall pick Brayden Yager.

The trade sparked debate, with many fans siding with McGroarty, who helped lead team USA to a world juniors Gold medal and Michigan to the frozen four.

However, Boudreau, known for his old-school and tough-nosed coaching style, saw things through a different lens and grilled the youngster for his actions.

Boudreau's take may resonates with others. Yes McGroaty is a talented player, and oozes with NHL potential as someone who can be a preeminent winger. He refused to sign his entry level contract with the Jets and had the right to use his leverage, but the character issues could create locker room trouble.
