Patrick Kane Reportedly Turned Down Multi-Year Contracts To Sign In Detroit
The Patrick Kane sweepstakes finally came to an end yesterday when the Red Wings made it official with a one-year 2.75 million dollar contract.
Red Wings Win Kane Sweepstakes, Sign One-Year Contract
Reportedly, Kane wanted to go to a team he thought he could win with. He also wanted term and he wanted to play a prominent role on his new team. So far the Red Wings look like they can compete this year although they do not have a recent track record of playoff success so that is yet to be seen. His role on the team is also yet to be seen as he has not played a game yet. One thing we know for sure though, is that he did sign a one-year deal, so clearly, term was not that important to Kane.

Kane Turned Down Better Offers To Play In Detroit
ESPN's Greg Wyshynski reported today that Kane had multiple multi-year offers from other clubs but he elected to sign with Detroit anyways. The Star winger is reportedly looking to explore his options in the offseason after making a push to win again with Detroit.
NEWS: Patrick Kane had multi-year offers from other NHL teams before signing 1-year deal with the @DetroitRedWings, NHL sources told ESPN.
Kane decided to go short-term with a team he felt could contend now and then "reevaluate" options in summer.
The fact that Kane was willing to turn down term is significant given the nature of his offseason hip resurfacing surgery. No player to return from the procedure has ever lasted more than one season after having the surgery so the fact that Kane was willing to turn down job security means that he is confident in his health.
