Gary Bettman and an expansion team: commissioner confirms strong interest from surprise city
We all know how much Quebec City, Houston and Atlanta want an NHL team. If the Coyotes' fate hinges on relocation, Gary Bettman will be spoilt for choice.
However, the idea of one or more expansions cannot be ruled out.
At a Media Day press briefing just before the start of the Stanley Cup Final, Gary Bettman and Bill Daly spoke on the subject:
"Bill Daly confirms that the NHL has been contacted directly by Ryan Smith (Utah Jazz / Salt Lake City) about having an NHL team.
(This could be a potential relocation location for the Coyotes, although Bettman insists he hopes to find a solution in Arizona)"

Daly adds that expansion isn't at the top of the League's priority list, but there really is solid excitement.
As for Ryan Smith, he'd like to start a hockey team in Salt Lake City.
