National League officials have openly hinted that expansion is on the NHL's agenda.
Let's just say they haven't closed the door on any scenario. The cities mentioned behind the scenes are often the same.
Houston and Salt Lake City top the list. Quebec City and the Nordiques are also mentioned, but Atlanta is the one that comes to mind most quickly.
This city is back in the discussion with a view to potentially hosting an NHL franchise.

According to Kevin Weekes, former goaltender and now media rep for a number of networks, the situation is moving forward very quickly, and they're looking to do something big in a suburb of Atlanta.
"I'm told that the South Forsyth project in suburban Atlanta, which includes an arena, is moving quickly. The design of the plan is progressing rapidly and talks with the builders are taking place."
- Kevin Weekes
It would be an up-to-date mega-complex where an amphitheater would be built to host evening shows, but also a hockey team.
Atlanta has already hosted an NHL team in the past, with the Flames and more recently the Trashers.
This big American city could come before Quebec City in the event of a new NHL expansion process. Keep an eye on it...
