As the hours ticked by and no statement was released regarding Eberle, people started to wonder what was going on. Finally, yesterday evening, the NHL made a statement that left many feeling frustrated and confused.
"We don't comment on plays on which we don't assess supplemental discipline."
That has been standard policy since the inception of the Dept. Of Player Safety in 2011. We make videos to provide detailed explanations of suspensions. Injury only comes into play AFTER a hit has been deemed suspension-worthy on its own."
Despite the severity of Cogliano's injury, the hit was considered "legal" by the NHL and Eberle will face no consequences. This has left the Avalanche and hockey fans feeling outraged, especially given the fact that Cogliano suffered a broken neck.
The NHL's lack of action in response to Cogliano's injury has sparked a debate on social media, with many calling for change. Is it time for Gary Bettman and George Parros to step down?
The Avs will probably address the issue tonight during the seventh game against Seattle.
