TJ Oshie has been dealing with injuries for seemingly all of his career, and now the veteran is set to spend a major stint on the sidelines again this season.
The past few years have been a struggle for Capitals veteran TJ Oshie, as the 37-year old has failed to play in 60 games in four straight campaigns, and in 2024/25, it's getting worse. After dealing with a back issue for quite some time, it has been announced by the team on social media that he'll be heading to the LTIR and will miss a significant chunk of time this season, if not the entire year.
The announcement from Washington came with a very heartfelt statement from Oshie, who acknowledges how tough things have been in recent years while thanking those involved in the organization and the fans for their support.
The last season was challenging for me, my family and my teammates as I dealt with a chronic back injury that kept me out of the lineup. I have used the off-season to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury. I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. I will continue to support and help my teammates and the organization in any way I can. I greatly appreciate all our fans support during this time.
At 37-years of age with 1,010 games under his belt, no one could blame Oshie if he wanted to walk away from the game, but given what he said in his statement, he's made it clear that he still has every intention of returning to the Capitals lineup. After a stellar career, Oshie wants to cap it off in the best way possible, so we will keep our eyes on the situation, but for now, all we can do is wait and see if Oshie will be back at some point soon to potentially help this team back to the Stanley Cup Finals.
