Alex Ovechkin Delivers Huge Hit On Maple Leafs Defenseman

Washington Capitals left winger and NHL legend Alex Ovechkin delivered a monstrous hit tonight on Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe.

The hit came early in the contest when both teams were pumped for the contest. The game is critical for both teams as the Maple Leafs are in a battle for the 3rd spot in the Atlantic division and the Capitals are hunting for the second wild card spot to get into the playoffs.





The Capitals are playing shorthanded after Tom Wilson received his 6th career Suspension last weekend. However, things have gone well for the team thanks in part due to Ovechkin's recent hot streak. The team has won each of the first three games of Wilson's suspension, although they are very likely to drop tonight's contest as they trail the Leafs 5-1.

Ovechkin leading Capitals towards unlikely playoff push

The Capitals captain has five goals and 11 points in his last ten games. The team has gone 7-3-0 over that stretch, catapulting themselves into the second wild card spot.



At this point, the Red Wings are the only team that is contention with the Capitals for the final spot in the Eastern conference. The team is two points back of Washington. After tonight, the Red Wings will still have one game in hand on the Capitals but they are also set to lose as they trail the Hurricanes 4-0 in the 3rd period.



Regardless of who gets in, it will certainly be an interesting race to keep an eye on for the remainder of the season.
