Erik Karlsson was finally dealt in a blockbuster move to the Pittsburgh Penguins this summer, and it appears he's ready to help Pittsburgh make a run in the crowded Eastern Conference.

An old foe

While many will be looking at the Devils, Rangers and Hurricanes as their greatest threat in the Metro division, an old Penguins rival in Tom Wilson has sent the Norris Trophy winner a message.

He's super skilled and does things that are next level. But at the end of the day, he's a rival now and we'll try and make his life difficult back there as a Capital.

Given their differing styles of play on the ice, there's no doubting that this will be a big collision when they meet, and with two veteran teams looking to bounce back after tough years, the rivalry could be ignited again.

Rivalry re-ignited

While Wilson appears ready to go after the ultra-skilled Karlsson, he has Pittsburgh in his sights as well, and with two veteran teams looking to compete against younger competition, it's going to heat up again.

There's always that rivalry. It's always fun to play those guys. As long as Sid and Ovi are playing, it's always a special night, and one that you circle on the calendar. So it'll be cool to have [Karlsson] be a part of that rivalry.

There's going to be some incredible matchups throughout the 2023-24 NHL season, but with Wilson, Ovechkin and the Penguins core ready to do battle again, these games should be must-see television.
