Wayne Gretzky Reveals He Rejected Ownership in Western Canadian Hockey Team
Wayne Gretzky is just about the only hockey player that is a household name in the United States. Today he revealed one of his biggest regrets of his career.
Gretzky Reveals He Turned Down Shocking Offer To Own Part Of Canucks
The great one was a guest on Spittin' Chiclets, the podcast hosted by Paul Bissonnette. During their conversation, he talked about some of his biggest regrets in life. The legendary hockey player revealed that he was once offered 25% ownership of the Vancouver Canucks as well as a massive raise to join the team, which he obviously declined.
"I talk to Nelson Skalbania all the time right? He called me at 7 am when we won the Stanley Cup and said 'I'm gonna buy the Vancouver Canucks, I'll give you 25% ownership of the team and 3 million dollars a year,' now the highest paid player in hockey was me at that time was 800 grand Canadian."

Had this deal gone through, the landscape of the NHL would have changed in such a drastic way that it is hard to know where the league would be today. Would the Canucks have won their first Stanley Cup with Gretzky? Where would the Oilers be today? What about the Kings, who later traded for the great one? All we can do is imagine what it would have been like.
