Chaos ensued during Game 5 between the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers. Trash rained down onto the ice at Rogers Arena.
All thanks to what might just be the most questionable penalty call of the entire playoffs.
Elias Pettersson, the man at the centre of the storm, got hit with a charging penalty. He was practically glued to the ice when it happened!
Charging, as per Rule 607, is all about a player using excessive force to lay down a punishing check. Think more than two strides or skating a long way just to steamroll someone. Yet Pettersson wasn't exactly playing wasn't even moving!

it's on the player delivering the check to avoid putting their opponent in harm's way.
Yet in this case, it seems like the refs might've missed the memo. Fans were quick to let 'em know it, with trash raining down from the stands in protest.
That penalty call had everyone scratching their heads. Yet one thing that all agreed upon was the exhilarating ending to the contest. JT Miller netted the winner in the final minute, lifting Vancouver to a 3-2 win, a 3-2 series lead and sending the once incensed crowd home with glee and chants of their hero.
