Despite the team trying to move Hughes Boudreau stood strong against their wishes. He would go on to be fired later that year and now coaches in the OHL. The move to make Quinn Hughes a center is one the Canucks are probably ecstatic they did not make now.
Canucks Thriving Behind Great Play From Norris Candidate
Just a year later the Vancouver Canucks are in a playoff spot led by Norris Trophy candidate defenseman Quinn Hughes. Hughes has been on an absolute tear solidifying himself as one of the best defensemen in the entire NHL.
Quinn Hughes picked up an assist to record his 50th point of 2023-24 in just 40 games.
Hughes was also named the captain of the Canucks this season. If Boudreau had listened to whoever wanted Quinn to be a forward none of this likely would happen. Instead, they are thriving and Boudreau has a great story to tell about how he contributed to the success of his former team.
